I can't help feeling it'd be easier to write this damn game if I could stay awake for more than 4 hours at a time.

Can you dream bits of it? You might find your wordcount per awakeness, or whatever, is boosted by the asleep-bits...

Have you tried working somewhere not on your own? I mean with someone else working rather than someone placed there as a specific distraction :-)
It generally helps me concentrate and occasional words and opinions are good for distracting from the falling asleep feeling...
A very personal thing though obviously so just a vague suggestion.
