Oh dear, I really am turning into a curmudgeonly old git

Just flamed the Register.

Apparently BDSM in Second Life passes for IT news these days.

Yawn.

Wish I knew why I cared enough to write. It's somehow as if the fact that El Reg published the darn thing has tarnished the whole operation. It's kind of like the way a schoolfriend of mine discovered he was gay when he went to Uni and promptly became the most boring person on the face of the planet.

I expect he grew out of it. I wonder if The Register will.

I've pretty well given up on El Reg.

Anything with Andrew Orlowski's taint on it is pretty much useless, which is a shame, because he has the potential to be a good journalist, if only his posturings didn't get in the way.

Orlowski again? He only does it to annoy.

I just found out that Suzanne Vega did a gig in Second Life! Dude! It's almost enough to make me want to come and live in teh future. But I'm still on Life 1.0.

(The Register made me cross recently by wasting THREE WHOLE PAGES OF THE INTERNET publishing unfunny whinges about "web 2.0", but I'm not going to have that argument on somebody else's journal. And then I sort of forgave them in the end because the article included the phrase "badger's paws". Badgers. Aww. I'm easily pleased, really.)

Its part of their ongoing "what happens in Second Life" article series, and to be honest what mostly goes on in Second Life is geeky programming or sex. If you get over the subject matter and actually read the article its a rather interesting take on S&M from someone who isn't into that whole thing. Not your normal 'urk - wierdos!' thing at all.

Personally I think The Register is doing fine at the moment, SL is currently making a big whoo-haa about its world, The Register is reporting on it.

I don't believe I've seen this userpic before, and I really like it.
