Digital Rights

"I will create a standing order of 5 pounds per month to support an organisation that will campaign for digital rights in the UK but only if 1,000 other people will too."

— Danny O'Brien

Only 25 more people needed to pledge a fiver a month to make this happen. I'd like to feel I at least did something to try to stop the entertainment industry from ripping away all of our rights of fair use. If you feel the same way too, please go to http://www.pledgebank.com/rights/.

Erm.....

Can I point you at [livejournal.com profile] pjc50 who is part of the UK campaign for digital rights, and may in fact be what you are after.

The goal seems to be to create a funded organisation with full-time staff to give the press a single well-known point of contact, rather than to replace the many volunteer organisations (like No2ID, FFII, Stand etc.). At least going by Danny O'Brien's article in The Guardian on the subject.

I find it a little curious as to why UKCDR hasn't got a mention, given that it's been mentioned a few times in NTK, and the new organisation seems to know about it at least a bit. Maybe [livejournal.com profile] pjc50 could answer.

Argh, it's like bloody PMQs in here :)

My answer grew into a bit of a rant, so it's here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/pjc50/95445.html

Basically I support the pledge people and hope to benefit from their activities (not their money).
