Structure

I think my life badly needs some structure.

Does anyone know of a job I can do telecommuting a couple of days a week? Some sort of programming or (sys)admin job would be ideal. Voluntary work is also a possibility. I could also fairly easily manage the commute to the Oxford Science Park or central Oxford (there's a direct bus from here). But it needs to be low stress, and part time, at the moment.

I'm also willing to consider *anything* that strikes me as interesting enough.

More social than I'm up to at the moment, I suspect. I tried to volunteer for Mind a while back and never made it in. Oxfam fails to enthuse me. If Oxford had a Books for Amnesty, I might reconsider, but ...

I have a brain. I'd like to do something that allows me to use it, basically.

I certainly don't want to be in anything customer facing. I just don't have the energy.

It has got an Oxfam bookshop, on St Giles, if it's the books rather than the Amnesty that does it for you.

There's www.kwickee.com, which claims to pay real money for pub reviews, how-to screeds and, er, porn, which they distribute on the mobile phone network. I've never got around to writing anything, but it's on my list once I acquire some verve.

... ah, structure, you say, no, that's not structure. Sorry, brain ossified.

There may be (or not, my info is rather dated) opportunies to review websites for various subjects for Oxford Uni library stuff. The one I heard about was for Biological Sciences.

I know this info is very vague, but if you're interested I could find out more.

That might work. And it's creative. Is there more info somewhere?

Nominet have sysadmin posts going - they're on the ring road just a minute or so along from the Science Park (their address may actually be Science Park, I don't know offhand). It could be worth asking if they'd consider a part-timer.

I'm not sure Nominet would count as "low stress"...

Thanks, but the whole "on call" issue probably rules me out anyway. How can you be on call if you can't get yourself to the site. (I don't drive.) This is why telecommuting seems like a good idea.

Jobs in Charities lists volunteer stuff as well as paid jobs (though you may be interested in looking at both as some of the paid stuff is part-time, fixed-term, short-term etc.). A lot of the things I've found through there have ended up pointing me at TimeBank, which seems to be some sort of national volunteering database/network/portal/thing. Dunno if either of these are any use ...
